Are engagement ring sizes different?

April 15, 2021

If you’re choosing an engagement ring to surprise your other half, it’s very likely you won’t know their finger size. Are engagement ring sizes different? Or are they all standard? Most engagement rings will be sold at a standard size and need to be resized once the proposal has been carried out.

How Are Rings Resized?

To resize a ring, the band will be cut and either a portion removed or added in to create the required size. Prior to the resizing, your jeweller will have you try on a series of rings used to accurately measure your ring size.

You should go neither too small nor too big, when we are cold our hands shrink and when warm, they swell. It’s best to choose a ring size that can accommodate these changes comfortably.

The Benefit Of Bespoke

With Burgundy Bespoke, our jewellers can help you create the engagement ring of your dreams, fitting it perfectly or resizing as part of our service should you not know your intended size. We take exceptional care with resizing to ensure that the ring looks as though it was made in that size. Careless resizing can cause stones to pop free from their settings or create weaknesses in the band. We guarantee all our work and treat your precious engagement ring with the utmost care.

Should you wish to attempt to guess the size of the band, we suggest trying the following:

  • Having them try on friends rings or costume rings for fun and measuring the size.
  • Enlist the help of friends or family who may be able to get the size subtly.
  • Measuring a ring they already wear.
