Ashley and Amanda’s pear-shaped Toi et Moi engagement ring
Two pear-shaped diamonds meet in this individually commissioned Toi et Moi engagement ring, created by Michael for Ashley to propose to Amanda. The French name means “you and me”: two stones brought together in one piece.
- Stone
- 2.51ct and 1.00ct GIA-certified pear-shaped natural diamonds
- Metal
- Platinum and 18-carat rose gold
- Signature detail
- V-claws and flowing wire setting
The brief
Amanda had shown Ashley the style she liked, but the finished design still needed to be resolved. Ashley relied on Michael to guide him through the proportions, materials and setting details, with the ring combining a platinum band and an 18-carat rose gold setting.
The decisions behind the design
With a Toi et Moi ring, choosing two impressive stones is only the beginning. The different sizes must feel deliberately composed. Michael selected diamonds with corresponding proportions, then refined their angle and orientation so the 2.51-carat and 1.00-carat stones sat naturally together while each retained its own presence. V-claws protect the points, with the remaining claws shaped to complement the curves of the pears.
The stones and materials
At the centre are two GIA-certified, pear-shaped natural diamonds: one weighing 2.51 carats and the other 1.00 carat. Both are D colour with VS clarity. The platinum band provides a cool, enduring foundation, while the 18-carat rose gold setting introduces warmth around the diamonds.
Craftsmanship in the details
Achieving the right balance required careful control of the angle of each diamond and the supporting wirework. Beneath the stones, the setting continues in a fluid structure so the two different sizes feel unified without becoming heavy or visually crowded.
The finished piece
Look first at the relationship between the two diamonds: the difference in scale, their shared pear-shaped outline and the way their angles bring them together. Then look more closely at the V-claws protecting their points, the shaped claws around the curves and the rose gold structure continuing beneath them.
