Two-stone tsavorite garnet dress ring
This dress ring began with two pear-shaped tsavorite garnets collected during a trip to Africa. Rather than asking the stones to fit an existing design, Michael developed a composition specifically for their matching shape and scale: two vivid green pears held in flowing 18-carat yellow gold.

The brief
The client already owned the two stones and wanted a dress ring designed around them. Each pear-shaped tsavorite garnet measured approximately 8mm by 5mm. Michael’s first task was to explore how they might work together, present different design possibilities and establish the finished look the client wanted.
The decisions behind the design
Because the stones were closely matched in size, the design could give them equal visual importance. Michael arranged the pears in opposing directions and developed the gold band to flow around and between them, creating movement without making the setting feel busy. Double claws were chosen as a deliberate visual detail as well as a secure setting choice.
The stones and materials
The client supplied two pear-shaped tsavorite garnets, each measuring approximately 8mm by 5mm. They were set in a ring handcrafted in 18-carat yellow gold. The stones were bought during a trip to Africa; no more specific geographic provenance is claimed.
Craftsmanship in the details
The challenge was one of balance: positioning both gemstones so the composition sat naturally across the finger while allowing the curves of the band and settings to read as one continuous design. The paired lines of the double claws echo the two-stone composition and refine the frame around each garnet.
The finished piece
From above, the two opposing pear shapes create a lively sense of movement. Look more closely at the double claws and the way the yellow gold crosses between the stones: the structural details are also what give the ring its flow. Two stones collected on a meaningful journey became something entirely individual and wearable.
